Synopsis

Flow invites you to surrender to the whims of the wind on a seemingly ordinary day, concealing within its turbulence a captivating night in the life of a woman, portrayed through the dance of air currents. The interplay of scents, warmth, respiration, and both natural and artificial gusts of wind, influenced by invisible forces, renders the imperceptible tangible.

Adriaan LOKMAN

Adriaan Lokman is a creator of time-based, linear, interactive, and cross-media projects. Flow (2023) VR and Timeshells (2020) are his most recent projects. Timeshells took off as a street-art-inspired experiment in which virtual worlds are brought to life by micro-mapped video projection on 3d printed objects. It evolved into a series of 10 cross-media installations. Timeshells is still expanding. In his 'space,' Adriaan investigates the boundaries between abstraction and reality, with the ongoing desire to involve the viewer.
He plays with codes, signs, and icons of our time and brings them to life with an orchestration of lights and shadows, camera movements, and musical compositions to create rhythm and take spectators into his virtual worlds. Decors and characters, observations of often repetitive day-to-day routines, reduced to minimal, often geometrically ordered shapes, are at the limit of the recognizable. While they are digital creations, they are also organic. The experimental nature of his work is the result of a long and intense production process, a natural consequence of a search for balance between abstraction and significance, culminating in projects that stimulate the imagination.
After graduating from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam Lokman lived and worked in Rotterdam where his career evolved from commissioned work, that allowed him to experiment with a broad variety of techniques and concepts, from airbrush illustrations to laser shows to the creation of his independent projects. In 2002 his first independent short film Barcode (2002) was awarded the Grand Prix d’Annecy. More awards followed and this success inspired him to close down the commercial production studio, move to France, and focus completely on independent artistic projects.

Encountering the Virtual and the Real:

A Beginner's Guide to XR

´Ý±â¹öÆ°

Unlike simply watching a screen, XR allows you to step into the story space through VR devices. You may become the protagonist, listen to the protagonist's story as if a friend is narrating, or use controllers to move and guide the story yourself. This freedom to explore and experience the story space is what sets it apart. Discover the new face of cinema, where rapidly advancing technology and art meet and transform.

XR stands for eXtended Reality, encompassing Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). VR involves wearing a Head Mounted Display (HMD) device to immerse yourself in a completely new 3D digital space. AR overlays digital content onto the real world, easily accessible through smartphones. MR combines VR and AR, recognizing real-world objects and creating a 3D virtual space around them. XR integrates all these technologies, offering increasingly realistic virtual worlds.

You can visit the exhibition site, register on the waiting list for the desired works, and view them. Please note that waiting times may be extended if there are many visitors.

¡°DoF stands for Degree of Freedom.¡± 3DoF works allow you to view from various angles by moving your head while wearing the device. 6DoF works enable you to move freely within the space, using controllers to interact with objects in the artwork, providing a more immersive experience.

Some XR works have age restrictions. You can check the viewing age for each work on the website and on-site before viewing. However, due to the nature of VR devices, it is recommended that minors with underdeveloped visual systems avoid excessive viewing for a safe and comfortable experience.

Due to the nature of VR devices requiring individual usage, group viewing is not available. Groups must use the waiting system individually.

The running time of each work varies from 15 to 90 minutes. Please refer to the website for the running times of the works you wish to view. Viewing all the content may require a week-long visit. To avoid discomfort or motion sickness, it is recommended to take sufficient breaks between viewings.
