Three sisters escaped after their parents attempted family suicide due to psychic scams. They dedicate themselves to 'sorcery beyond the reach of the law' and seek to eradicate 'evil beyond the reach of the law.' They embark on a mission to fulfill their quest for justice.
Synopsis
26 years ago, the three Aoi sisters¡ªKotoko, Nana, and Ami¡ªwere 11, 9, and 6 years old when their parents fell victim to a worldwide religious cult's psychic scam. In a desperate escape bid, their parents attempted a family suicide. The eldest sister, Kotoko, begged for her sisters' lives, but when their parents continued and aimed to harm young Ami, Kotoko took drastic action. She doused them in kerosene, set them on fire, and fled with her sisters. Determined to bring justice to the 'evil beyond the reach of the law' that shattered their family, the three sisters decided to master sorcery at Shimokage School. This is the epic tale of their journey to confront and vanquish evil through the hidden powers of the occult.
Creator's Statement
In Japan, deeply entrenched misogynistic and dismissive attitudes toward women persist despite the global movement toward equality. Economically, Japan faces stagnation and an ever-widening gap between the rich and poor. In this climate of economic uncertainty, many fall prey to conspiracy theories, spiritual scams, and cults, leading to financial ruin, wasted lives, and harm to those around them.
Growing up with parents involved in a new religious movement, Shiraishi became highly sensitive to the spiritual world from a young age. As Shiraishi matured and faced reality, he became acutely aware of the manipulative nature of those who exploit spirituality for profit.
Red Spider Lilies tells the story of three beautiful sisters who, after losing their parents to a fraudulent male medium, exact revenge on evils beyond the reach of the law through sorcery beyond the reach of the law. This film, born from Shiraishi's personal experiences and reflections on society, is imbued with a ''prayer'' for people to find hope and resilience in these uncertain times. Shiraishi believes this story will resonate deeply with audiences and highlight the importance of empowerment.
