Synopsis

Bioengineering scientist Sung Na-hee meets her digital clone AI, Synthia, exposes her supervisor's plagiarism, and uncovers a conspiracy surrounding chimeric artificial organ technology. She experiences a blurred reality, becomes pregnant with Synthia's clone, and her illusions are simulated as the fetus's dream. Ultimately, Na-hee kills Kang Do-Young and gives birth to a future synthetic lifeform.

Director DO Naeri, a philosophy graduate from Sogang University, completed her debut SF feature Trans in 2020. With support from the Korean Film Council, it had a theatrical release in 2022. The film was officially selected and screened at numerous international film festivals (38 overseas, 4 domestic), winning Best Sci-Fi Feature awards at New York City Horror Film Festival, Hollywood Horror, and LA Sci-Fi Film Festival. In Korea, it premiered at BIFAN 2021, screened at Chuncheon SF Film Festival (winning the City Award), and received the Grand Prize at the 2022 SF Awards.

DO Youngchan

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Film from the 10th University in Paris, France, and produced the interactive VR drama The Pilgrim's Ancestor invited to the VR Cinema in BIFF at 2019 Busan International Film Festival, and the short films Book Lover and Smile which won the Outstanding Work Award from the Shin Young-gyun Culture and Arts Foundation in 2020 and the Special Award at the 51st USA Film Festival (USAFF) in 2021. Also produced interactive games such as Black Case and Yeonohwaseo, and conducted multiple pitches to global investment companies at the Busan Contents Market, and won the Best Interactive VR Drama Pitching Award at the Jeonju Smart Media X Camp. Currently working as a visiting professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Keimyung University.

Negative Film

Negative Film is a film production company established along with the production of director Do Naeri's first feature film, Trans. The company plans to consistently explore the SF thriller genre, advocating transhumanism and cyber avant-garde/feminism. Moreover, Negative Film aims to pursue avant-garde style films that transcend the boundaries and formal framework of the genre. The film Synthia is the second feature film in Negative Film's Transhuman project, which seeks to pioneer a new approach to the SF genre.
