WIP: Korean Feature Animation is a program that introduces Korean feature animations, produced on medium to low budgets, to industry professionals. These films move away from the traditional animation techniques aimed at young children and instead tell stories from the director's perspective, dedicated to communicating with a broader audience.
These directors choose to express their personal artistic styles in a more detailed manner, rather than adhering to conventional methods aimed at achieving mainstream success. This approach is similar to the opportunities given to new directors in Korean cinema to connect with audiences through medium to low-budget films. Directors who participated in this program started their careers in animation, and some have managed to maintain their studios by engaging in outsourced production, all while developing distinctive creative traits. These varied production environments have allowed them to cultivate their individual artistic identities.
Especially important for directors starting feature animations are the support programs for medium to low-budget animations run by the Korean Film Council and the Korea Creative Content Agency. Through these programs, not only has the completeness of the works been enhanced, but they have also served as a great model for discovering new directors and providing them with directing opportunities.
NAFF focuses on these processes and works, aiming to introduce the ongoing efforts to the industry professionals and audience.
